An open letter about players safety in Airsoft Games

Player safety has always been a hallmark of Fun On The Run. The number one safety factor when playing Airsoft is ones eye protection. Our eyes cannot be replaced and are a gift that is only giving to us once. With this single thought in mind, all players should want to protect their eyes with the safest goggle systems on the market.

We do understand that they are many factors that go into choosing the system you chose, style, price, availability or what your friend has. However, the most important factor needs to be overall safety. A one-piece ASTM approved goggle system, much like used in paintball is the safest system on the market, according to test done by Airsoft Hawaii. Their testing showed paintball mask was shot repeatedly (at over 400 feet per second. 400fp is our limit) with no damage to the goggle lens, frame or facemask. No other goggle system in their testing came close to that level of protection. (1)

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the use of paintball-style protective eyewear goggles that meet certain safety standards while using air guns. (2)

This level of protection does not only protect one’s eyes, it gives full protection to the ears, temple, face, and teeth. An airsoft bb has been known to damage teeth, so this protection is also a great factor when considering a good safe goggle system, plus we all know that dental work does not come cheap.

Come April 28, 2018, Fun on the Run will only allow participation in airsoft play with a one-piece ASTM approved goggle system. We will no longer allow any type of two-piece goggle and face protection. No exceptions will be made.

With all this said, we know a few people may say that you want to wear the two-piece google and face protection, you feel they are safe enough. We understand you might feel that our safety standards are too rigid and choose not to play here. We understand this may cost us business, ultimately may cost us money. However, we are willing to sacrifice our profit for our player’s safety. We hope that no matter where you play you consider your safety the most important factor to you and the game of airsoft.

Sincerely,
David Creamer
