I keep hearing people say the phrase " I need some old cheap paintballs, because I just play woodsball"
This statement is so wrong, for so many reasons. Paintballs control about 40% of your markers accuracy. As a paintball player for the last 20 years who played every level of paintball. One thing is true a paintball makes a huge difference. Trust me when I tell you that a paintball can be the difference between winning and losing. I was playing a pro event in Chicago a few years back, before the event we made a huge sponsorship deal with a new paint company. This deal was going to be very lucrative for the team. So we geared up and went out shooting the new companies paint and lost the first three games. We lost because of the paint, plain and simple. I have never been one to lay a lost at the feet of my equipment, but We could not hit anything. We made the decision to go buy paintballs from a trusted paint company and guess what we won the rest of our games.
I tell this story to reinforce that paint matters. It doesn't matter how many bps your gun shoots or what tactical gear you have, paint matters. Now back to the original statement of " I need cheap paint, because I play woodsball", as a player I know the accuracy matters even more in woodsball. So why does someone need only cheap paint again?
Ok, but it is cheaper? Now I will never tell you that I am a financial genius, but let's work this out. A good paintball at my local paintball store cost .0225 a ball, going down to one of the big box discount stores and buying paint it cost .019 a ball. With both these paints in tow, I set up a target 40 feet away. Shooting the good paint I hit the target in the 1 to 2 shots on average. Now changing nothing but the paint ,to the paint I picked up at the big box discount store, it took 3-6 balls on average to hit the target. Now let's do the math.....
Good paintballs: 2 balls x .0225 = .045 to hit the target.
Discont paintballs: 4 balls x .019 = .076 to hit the target.
Humm, it looks like the discount paintballs cost more, because I have to shoot more per game I play to get the same results. So again why does any one need the this so called discount paintballs?
Now I could go on and tell you about the environmental issues and safety issues, but that is a story of another day. So if you want a better day of play, improve your game and even lower the cost of a day......BUY GOOD Paintballs!
