A Paintball Barrel Bag is a wise choice

I wonder if anyone has ever went shopping for a new car and told the car dealer “ I don't need seat belts or airbags”. I feel that is equivalent in paintball terms to buying all your own gear and not having any type of barrel blocking device. I mean we are only talking about you and your friends safety. A barrel blocking device (aka barrel sock, barrel bag) are not expensive, they only cost about $5.00. They are very handy and as any paintball player knows they get used daily. I mean I have shoot a few rounds into my barrel bag in the past, but you know what they is a lot better and cheaper than into my friends eye socket. Sounds like a wise investment, they are cheap, all parks require them and it is just good safety. Barrel Blocking Device a must have!

Here is a link showing what the difference between a barrel bag and an old barrel plug

Always play safe, we all love this sport and safety should always be are number one concern as players.

Do you want to get better as a player

As I stated in the past I have played this beloved game for over 20 years now. I played at every level of paintball. I played for fun only on the weekends, I played in big games, I played in scenario games, I played tournaments in the woods, I played torments on tv, I played on first hyperball field, I played on the first Airball field at the world cup, I played pro, I played in Europe, you get it I played a lot.

The first time I played paintball, I played all day long and shot NO one. The first time I played a tournament my team as a whole shot 1 guy all event. That is right one guy only,we got last place. This doesn't sound like the story of a pro paintball player, but trust me it is. If you go around and ask most pro player they will have a similar story. A story that goes when I started I sucked and got shot a lot.

I am telling you all this, because I see a trend that is not good. I am seeing tournament player only want to play events with teams they know are not as good as their team and they know they can beat. I am seeing the weekend player only want to play with player he can beat up on.

Why, does this matter? It matters! By playing with player that are better than you, you will get shot, you will lose, and losing is no fun. But a funny thing will also happen, you will get better. You will not become a pro overnight, but you will get better each time. If you go back and ask those pro players the question, "How did you get better?" They all will tell you, by practicing against better players. Again you will lose a lot of games, you will get shot and it is no fun losing, but you will get better.

Now, as you get better, and you join the higher ranks, you gain a responsibility.

This responsibility is to help other paintball players get better, it is not to go to your local park and shoot new players in the face and beat up on them. Go to your local field play hopper ball, use a pump, work on a certain skill, but mainly help that new player! Give him some hints and tips. Remember not to long ago that guy was you.

At this point paintball is apart of you and you apart of it. It is your job to ......Remember to have fun and help other do the same, not to take away their fun!

The basics every paintball gun owner should have

Even if you have no knowledge of how to fix your marker or equipment, having the tools to do so is still a good idea!

As a former professional paintball player and a master paintball tech I have been to many parks and events where someone's marker needed a quick repair, but they had no tools or parts to do so. With out the the tools and parts, other players and I could not lend any knowledge or a helping hand. With a marker that needs repair, they were left using a rental gun or calling it a day. If they just had a basic tool and parts kit for their marker setup, they could have been up and runing in a few minutes.

Ok, so you are saying go out and spend $100.00 on parts and another $75.00 on tools. This would be great for the serious player, but for $20.00 the average player could have a basic tool and parts kit.

Your local shop can help you pick out about $5.00 - $10.00 worth of replacement parts and orings for your marker and below is some tool you should have.

The tool and parts kit will come in handy more than you think and could be the difference in a busted day or a great day of play.

Discount paintballs...really?

I keep hearing people say the phrase " I need some old cheap paintballs, because I just play woodsball"

This statement is so wrong, for so many reasons. Paintballs control about 40% of your markers accuracy. As a paintball player for the last 20 years who played every level of paintball. One thing is true a paintball makes a huge difference. Trust me when I tell you that a paintball can be the difference between winning and losing. I was playing a pro event in Chicago a few years back, before the event we made a huge sponsorship deal with a new paint company. This deal was going to be very lucrative for the team. So we geared up and went out shooting the new companies paint and lost the first three games. We lost because of the paint, plain and simple. I have never been one to lay a lost at the feet of my equipment, but We could not hit anything. We made the decision to go buy paintballs from a trusted paint company and guess what we won the rest of our games.

I tell this story to reinforce that paint matters. It doesn't matter how many bps your gun shoots or what tactical gear you have, paint matters. Now back to the original statement of " I need cheap paint, because I play woodsball", as a player I know the accuracy matters even more in woodsball. So why does someone need only cheap paint again?

Ok, but it is cheaper? Now I will never tell you that I am a financial genius, but let's work this out. A good paintball at my local paintball store cost .0225 a ball, going down to one of the big box discount stores and buying paint it cost .019 a ball. With both these paints in tow, I set up a target 40 feet away. Shooting the good paint I hit the target in the 1 to 2 shots on average. Now changing nothing but the paint ,to the paint I picked up at the big box discount store, it took 3-6 balls on average to hit the target. Now let's do the math.....

Good paintballs: 2 balls x .0225 = .045 to hit the target.

Discont paintballs: 4 balls x .019 = .076 to hit the target.

Humm, it looks like the discount paintballs cost more, because I have to shoot more per game I play to get the same results. So again why does any one need the this so called discount paintballs?

Now I could go on and tell you about the environmental issues and safety issues, but that is a story of another day. So if you want a better day of play, improve your game and even lower the cost of a day......BUY GOOD Paintballs!
